Review: Hollywood’s apocalypse arrives on Blu-ray with ‘This is the End’

2013-10-04-This-Is-The-End-Blu-Ray-coverThe summer apocalyptic comedy, “This Is the End,” follows a group of well-known Hollywood celebrities, led by Seth Rogen (“The Green Hornet”) and Jay Baruchel (“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”) partying at James Franco’s house when the end begins in fiery earnest.

The film was one of the summer’s surprise hits, and it was just recently re-released in theatres for a couple of weeks in order to boost its box office take over the $100 million mark. But if you managed to miss it both times, have no fears, because “This is the End” is now available on DVD and Blu-ray.

I do need to note that “This Is the End” is exceptionally vulgar, with foul language and situations thrown around like confetti on New Year’s, so consider yourself fair
    warned.

That being said, I think the reason “This Is the End” works as well as it does is the fact that while many of the actors are not portrayed in the best light, it still feels like friends ribbing friends, without the viciousness we’ve seen in so many parodies over the past several years. This isn’t about spite; it’s is about them having fun and us getting to watch.

The movie is rated R for crude and sexual content throughout, brief graphic nudity, pervasive language, drug use and some violence.
