County abandons Keaton sidewalk after public outcry

While the Taylor County Commission still plans to seek state funding for a possible sidewalk along Johnson Stripling Road and Ash Street near Taylor County High School (TCHS), the board has changed its mind on pursuing a similar project along Keaton Beach Drive after a group of coastal residents spoke out against it.

Instead, the commission is now considering a sidewalk project along U.S. 221 from Ash Street to the area of Grave’s Drive-In as its second submission, and the board will hold a public hearing on Monday, Jan. 31, to solicit feedback on that proposal.
