Gerelda Blalock

Gerelda Blalock, 91, passed away on Feb. 3, 2022, in Perry.

She was born May 1, 1930, in Homerville, Ga., to James Thomas Riggins and Clara Smith Riggins.

Gerelda was a teacher in Taylor County for more than 30 years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Perry, serving in their choir for many years.

She was a wonderful cook and a member of the Perry Garden Club.

Gerelda was preceded in death by: her husband of 49 years, Dr. Charles C. Blalock; her youngest son, Corbitt Blalock; her parents, Tommy and Clara Riggins; and her brother, Loran Riggins.

She is survived by her son, Charles C. Blalock Jr., and her sister, Nancy McMeekin of St. Augustine, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Pineview Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Steven Ruff officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service, from 1-2 p.m., at Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
