    City utility credit dropped

    A proposal to give city customers a credit on their utility bills using federal stimulus funds failed last week after the city council learned those funds could be better used to pay for necessary drinking water system upgrades while also lowering the cost of future water rate increases.

    Councilwoman Shirlie Hampton had proposed using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to give utility customers a credit of between $75-$120 over the course of a year to help offset rate increases adopted by the city last October.
