    Franklin honored as 2021 ‘Our Hero’

    The late Capt. Michael Eugene “Gene” Franklin, assistant chief for the Perry Police Department (PPD), was posthumously awarded the Perry Rotary Club’s 2021 “Our Hero Award.”

    Franklin died Nov. 23, 2021. After starting his law enforcement career as a dispatcher with the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, the 54-year-old served the PPD for 27 years, joining the PPD as a patrol officer and rising through the ranks to become second in command.
