    Jimmie Doss Bennett

    Jimmie Doss Bennett passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 9, 2022, in her home. She was 91 years old and lived a long, active life in Perry.

    Jimmie was born in Mathiston, Miss., on Aug. 15, 1930.

    She is survived by: her sister, Helen Doss Mitchener of Baton Rouge, La.; her nephews, Steve Mitchener, Mike Smith and Andy Smith; and nieces, Melanie Cobb, Cathy Davis and Melissa Mitchener; and her brother-in-law Hester Smith of West Point, Miss.

    She was preceded in death by: her husband, Dr. Edward Bennett of Perry; and her parents Joe and Jewel Doss of West Point, Miss.; and her sister, Mary Jane Smith of West Point.

    Jimmie and Ed met in college in Memphis, Tenn., and were married soon after they moved to Perry in 1952. Jimmie was a medical assistant for many years.

    She and Ed traveled extensively around the world. Jimmie was very involved in numerous civic and community affairs and had a deep sense of pride in Perry.

    She was known to be a very gracious hostess and entertained many friends over the years. She loved bridge, gardening and reading, and was active in many clubs. In her later years, she had many exciting and adventurous trips with her family and close friends.

    The family would like to say a special thanks to all of her dear and loyal friends, Glenda Hamby, Cindy Moore and, especially, Carleen Grant who remained helpful and present in her declining health. Also, her loving caregivers Cynthia Buggs and Ida Gaddy for their exceptional care.

    Jimmie was a very special lady who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

    Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 12, at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Matthew Bush officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterward in Pineview Memorial Cemetery.

    All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
