    Heavy rain leads to Foley mill discharge

    A “significant rainfall event,” which dumped more than five inches of rain in a 24-hour period here Saturday, led to an estimated 3.5 million gallons of stormwater and untreated wastewater being discharged into the Fenholloway River by the local Georgia-Pacific (GP) Foley mill.

    “During the significant rain event Saturday morning, the rainfall amount exceeded our system’s collection capability, allowing mixed stormwater and process water to discharge to the Fenholloway River,” GP Public Affairs Manager Scott Mixon said.
