Review: The leftovers are just as good as dinner in ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2’

2013-10-11-cloudy-with-a-chance-of-meatballs-2-movie-posterSony Pictures is back with “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2,” reuniting most of the original voice cast and many of the animators as inventor Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) and the rest of the Swallow Falls crew try to retake their hometown from an uprising of living food created by Flint’s machine.

I tend to hold animated films to a relatively high standard, and that’s mostly because I love animation. That being said, like any other kind of movie, I can enjoy an animated one which does not have as lofty goals as say “WALL•E,” as long as it makes me laugh and entertains me. And that’s exactly what “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” did and that is exactly what its sequel did. Sure, some of the food-related puns are groan-worthy, but I found myself laughing anyway.

Kids should have plenty of fun with this one and the jokes should keep the parents laughing enough so they enjoy themselves as well.

The movie is rated PG for mild rude humor.
