Hazel Tuten Sheffield, 87, passed away on March 28, 2022, in Tallahassee.
Hazel was born Sept. 6, 1934, in Moseley Hall to Frank B. Tuten and Faye Pickles Tuten.
Mrs. Sheffield was of the Methodist faith and nn active member of Lake Bird Methodist Church for more than 60 years.
Hazel worked with State of Florida as an administrative assistant for more than 20 years.
She enjoyed the farm that she and her husband Preston built, tending to cattle, continuing traditions of syrup making, growing tobacco, gardening and canning the fruits of her labor.
She will be fondly remembered for the best 12 layer chocolate cake around.
Mrs. Hazel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister who adored her family, but it was her grandchildren that held a special place in her heart.
Hazel was preceded in death by: her husband of 53 years, Preston Sheffield; her parents, Frank and Faye Tuten; and her brothers, Buford and Lamar Tuten.
Mrs. Sheffield is survived by: her children, Glenn (Faith) Sheffield, Don (Margie) Sheffield, Yvonne (David) Read and Cyndi (Ricky) Webb; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law Virginia Merritt; as well as a host of many dear friends she made over the years.
Funeral services will be held today (April 1) at 11 a.m. at Lake Bird Methodist Church with Brother Bobby Harper officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterward in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from one hour prior to the service.
