    Michael J. ‘Bugga’ Martin Jr.

    Michael J. Martin Jr., “Bugga,” passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022. He was 51.

    He was born Dec. 26, 1970, in Miami at Jackson Memorial Hospital toMichael Jerome Martin Sr. and the late Bonnie Jackson.

    Michael moved to Perry when he was about nine years of age and was raised with his late mother, Bonnie, and stepfather, Ronnie Jackson, and sister, Melinda Hugger.

    He graduated from Taylor County High School in 1989.

    Michael talked about becoming a actor. He once tried out for drama class! He mentioned that was

    something he really wanted – to be an actor. He knew how to draw and write poems as well. He was very creative and outspoken.

    Michael was very loved and well-known.

    Many knew Michael..

    Michael became Perry’s finest “licensed barber” for more than 30 years, owning and operating “Michael’s Barbershop.”

    He was that cool guy who would give you the best advice, and a very loving man.

    Michael leaves with us to always take care ourself and be strong.

    You will be missed Michael Martin Jr. You are in our hearts.

    He leaves to cherish his memory: his lovely wife, Marilyn Martin; children, Miguel Martin and David Martin; step-children, Cierra Sparrow and Cinterra Rivers; one grandchild, Ma’Ryiah Martin; eight step-grandchildren, Embrey Sparrow, Natalie Tolbert, Nyasia Sparrow, Atiya Walker, Landen Crocker, Noah Tolbert, Sergio Sparrow Jr. and Jarvis “JJ” McGrew Jr.; father, Michael Jerome Martin Sr.; step-father, Ronnie Salomon Jackson; aunties, Debbie Martin, Dorothy Grimes and Vonnie Sanders; uncle, Solomon Grimes; and brothers and sisters, Melinda Hugger, Adrianna Spain, Tanya Williams, Marshall Pace, Shayla Martin, Vachon Raye, Burandous Franklin and Madeiros Dennison; along with a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, customers and classmates.

    A public wake was held Friday, April 8, from 5-7 p.m., at So Good Events in Perry, located at 1310 South Jefferson St. A private family memorial was Saturday, April 9, from 1-3 p.m., at So Good Events, located at 1310 South Jefferson St.
