The “Guardians of the Flame,” consisting of law enforcement members, first responders and Special Olympics athletes, carried the “Flame of Hope” to raise awareness for the Special Olympics during the Law Enforcement Torch Run along Jefferson Street Monday.

Local law enforcement officers, corrections officers and first responders joined forces Monday for the Special Olympics Torch Run in downtown Perry.

Known as the “Guardians of the Flame,” each year more than 97,000 dedicated and compassionate law enforcement members carry the “Flame of Hope” to “light the way” for more than 38,500 athletes statewide and raise awareness for the Special Olympics movement prior to local competitions, as well as state, national, regional and world games.
