Memorial Day is an American holiday established to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
As always, Memorial Day will be celebrated this year on the last Monday in May, which falls on May 30 this year.
In observance of Memorial Day, Joe D. White American Legion Post 291 located in Steinhatchee will be placing American flags honoring veterans along the streets of Steinhatchee on May 23.
Post 291 has announced that May 9 is the cut-off deadline for applications to be submitted for its memorial brick fundraising project.
Laser-etched memorial bricks can be added to the existing “Walk of Honor/Walk of Remembrance” at the entrance to Post 291 on 11th Street.
A $50 donation secures a brick, which can be etched with the name of the person or business you choose to honor.
Applications are available at Post 291 or by contacting Commander Jimmy Dietrich (850) 259-3447 or Carolyn Wiley (423) 465-1467.
