With his cloudy blue eyes twinkling and tufts of tousled gray hair lifting in the breeze, Tow Head Steve lurches forward in his red folding chair and belts out with laughter, “If I’d have known anything about the Mississippi (River), I never would have done it!”
I met 67-year-old Steve Bromley, better known as “Tow Head Steve,” at Hagen’s Cove in January after hearing reports of a man paddling a 14-foot canoe from North Carolina to Florida.
