Taylor County Middle School’s (TCMS) Japanese Cultural Club will hold a fundraising yard sale Saturday, May 14, at the Grand Pavilion at Rosehead Park (located adjacent to the splash pad) from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Items will include an assortment of knick-knacks and homemade goods.
All proceeds will support the club’s end-of-the-year after-school social for the entire TCMS student body.
The club has an average of 35 active members.
“We study story-telling in the anime we watch, understand the breakdown of genres within the medium, as well as host game nights for students who enjoy video games,” Sponsor Austin Emfinger said.
“We also study the Japanese language in a practical way that we can use in-person and help understand our games/shows to a further culture extent. However, we mainly plan and complete events, such as hosting our own field trip to Florida State University this past March. From pure student effort, we were able to pull off our own field trip to Tallahassee for 43 students without them having to pay a cent,” he said.
“The Japanese Culture Club is first and foremost a organization that fuels and prospers a sense of community after school. I have seen students step into becoming leaders, shy students making a plethora of new friends and students who hated being at school get excited to come back and see their friends.
“All of our goals are student-set and project-based. We are planning to host after school party in our gym for the whole school,” Emfinger said.
