UPDATE (06-22-22):
The State Attorney’s Office (SAO) has declined to pursue charges against a couple arrested in May following allegations the man grabbed a teen at Keaton Beach and offered to “buy” the children she was babysitting, while his wife allegedly witnessed the behavior and did nothing.
The state cited a lack of corroborating evidence to substantiate the claims and possible “cultural misunderstandings” as contributing factors in declining to prosecute Michael Angelo Malewicz, 77, and his wife, Mazenna Alicja Wisniewska, 58. (The couple live in Dunedin, but have dual citizenship in Poland.)
ORIGINAL STORY:
A 77-year-old Dunedin man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly groping a young girl at Hodges Park and offering to “buy” the children she was babysitting.
Michael Angelo Malewiz was arrested and booked at the Taylor County Jail on charges of lewd and lascivious behavior (victim 12 or older, but younger than 16) and child abuse without great bodily harm, as well as two counts of kidnapping/false imprisonment.
His wife, Marzenna Wisniewska, 58, was also arrested on a charge of failing to report child abuse for allegedly witnessing the encounter and doing nothing to intervene or report it to authorities.
