Sarah Gant Hankerson, 72, of Rocky Mount, N.C., transitioned on Sunday, May 8, 2022.
A celebration of her life will be held in her hometown, Perry, at St. Peter Primitive Baptist Church (602 West Church Street) on Saturday, May 28, at 11 a.m.
A public viewing will be held at the church on Friday, May 27, from 4-6 p.m.
Sarah is survived by: her four children, Robert, Emanuel, Christopher and Paula; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of loving family and friends.
Throughout her life, Sarah had been a teacher, organizer, provider, consultant and entrepreneur having worked in the public school system, with non-profit organizations and for-profit businesses providing quality services to her local communities. T
he joy of giving to others shined her light bright with anyone she met.
Sarah was a devoted member to St. Johns 3:16 Missionary Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. She was truly a woman of God.
An amazing woman, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend, Sarah will truly be missed and is survived across the United States by family and friends in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey and North Carolina.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans-Walker Funeral Home.
