The occupant of this single-family home at 907 W. Leon Street safely escaped Tuesday afternoon after lightning apparently sparked a house fire during an afternoon thunderstorm.
City of Perry Fire Department firefighters Capt. RB Lee, Ben Meacham, Ryan Parker and Mike Helms, along with Taylor County Fire-Rescue firefighters, were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, which was contained to the attic and one bedroom. The suspected cause of the blaze was a bolt of lightning that may have struck an exhaust pipe connected to the air conditioning unit’s air handler on the roof of the home.
