Marina files petition over tax abatement

Attorneys representing Steinhatchee’s new marina have filed a petition in circuit court challenging the Taylor County Commission’s decision to grant the company just one-quarter of the property tax exemption developers had originally requested.

Following a public hearing held on April 19, the commission voted 3-2 in favor of an economic development incentive for Steinhatchee Marina at Dead Man’s Bay, approving a 50% property tax abatement over the next five years, which is expected to save the company an estimated $126,000 in taxes.
