    Woodrow Clent Lewis

    Posted on June 15, 2022

On Friday, June 3, 2022, the Lewis family suffered a tragic loss. Clent, Woodrow “Bill,” Lewis lost his life due to complications from an accident.

Clent was born on Oct. 9, 1947, in Taylor County.

He grew up in a rural farming area helping the family tend to crops and animals including working tobacco and sugar cane.

As he grew older he became interested in learning about and working on engines. During his time in the Army he worked on helicopters and continued that line of work as a civilian after two tours in Vietnam.

Many knew him, or of him, due to his many years of machine and equipment repair ranging from logging equipment to farm equipment and vehicles.

Clent loved being in the woods and working on things. Some of his favorite things to do were hunting, fishing and spending time with family. He was a jack of all trades so to speak with a “make it work” spirit and enjoyed a good laugh.

Family members will hold a memorial for Clent on Saturday, June 18, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Greenville, starting at 11 a.m. Those who knew and loved him are invited to attend.

Clent is survived by: his wife of 51 years, Rebecca Lewis (Lundy); his daughters, Jennifer Lewis, Jessica (Tom) Rucks and Mary Bloom; his grandchildren, Seth Rucks, Abigail (Devlin) Hamrick and Addison Bloom; his sister, Kathy Pierce (Lewis); and a host of cousins, other family and friends.

He was predeceased by: his father, Woodrow Lewis; his mother, Pearlie Lewis (Devane); his sisters, Linda Lewis and Victoria Suriano; and his brother, Thomas Wayne Lewis.

We will always carry your memory in our hearts.
