The quick thinking and brave actions of a local firefighter/EMT and two Good Samaritan boaters are being credited with saving the life of 17-year-old Addison Bethea, who lost a portion of her leg in a savage shark attack of the Taylor County coast on Thursday, June 30.

Bethea’s brother Rhett Willingham, 23, is being hailed as a hero for helping fight off an estimated nine-foot shark that severely mangled her right thigh while she was scalloping just off Grassy Island.
