Although shark attacks are extremely rare in the Big Bend, and almost never involve people scalloping, there are precautions people can take while enjoying their time on the Gulf.
“Snorkelers and free divers are rarely victims of shark bites,” said Perry native R. Dean Grubbs, Ph.D., associate director of research for the Florida State University Coastal and Marine Laboratory.
