    Wild Wonders

Creepy crawlers and slithering serpents delighted patrons young and old at the Taylor County Public Library Tuesday. Children pressed in to get a closer look at each exhibit as the speakers captured their imaginations with stories of animal adventures. From a tunneling ferret to a chubby spiky iguana, kids delighted in each new exhibit, sometimes even getting to help hold the creatures.

But, it was the snakes that produced the most excitement. “Is your mom a nurse? Is your father a lawyer?” the host asked one brave volunteer before draping a ball python around her neck. Pulling a large boa from the back, the host placed it over the arms of three giggling kids. A blue-tongue skink entertained the crowd by demonstrating that an animal will be animal, even in the library, to the squeals of delight from the children, prompting a library employee to whisper with a giggle, “Make sure that you mention that we are taking donations for carpet cleaning.” (Photos by Jessica Moore)
