    Malcolm Vondel Page

    Malcolm Vondel Page passed away on July 18, 2022, at Doctors’ Memorial Hospital in Perry. He was born on Oct. 22, 1940, in Cabbage Grove, the oldest son of Eddie William Page and Pearlie Sheppard Page. Malcolm attended Cabbage Grove School and graduated from Taylor County High School in 1958. He later earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics education from Florida State University. He was a math teacher for more than 40 years. Throughout his career, he taught in numerous schools throughout Florida and Georgia, but for most of his career he taught at Taylor County High School until he retired in 2001. In 2020, he was selected to become a member of the Taylor County School District’s Educators’ Hall of Fame and was inducted during ceremonies held in 2021. Throughout his life Malcolm had a passion for community service and politics. During different times of his life, he held many different leadership positions, including: county commissioner for Taylor County District I, 2004-20; member of the Tri-County Electric Cooperative Board of Trustees, 1993 to 2017, where he served as president from 2002-15; and as a member of the Seminole Electric Cooperative Board of Trustees in Tampa from 2005-17, where he served as president 2012-15. He also served on the Florida Electric Cooperative Association from 2002-15, on the Board of Trustees for Doctors’ Memorial Hospital and as the Taylor County administrator for the Aucilla Area Solid Waste Facility in Greenville. Malcolm was a very compassionate and loving person. He loved people and loved serving his community. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He grew up on a farm and loved farming crops and raising animals. He was a hard worker and was a skilled carpenter. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and served on the Vestry there. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1851. He loved his family and his wife, Bettie. He will be deeply missed by all the people whose lives he impacted. Malcolm will especially be missed for his jovial demeanor and his storytelling and jokes. He is survived by: his wife of 40 years, Bettie; three sons, George (Debra) Page of Perry, David (Tammy) Page of Moss Point, Miss., and Daniel Page of Tallahassee; two daughters, Susan Poitevint of Perry and Cindy (Scotty) Lents of Mayo; two brothers, Ed (Suzanne) Page of Perry and Don Page of Tallahassee; and one sister, Marilyn Lee of Perry; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation for friends will be held Sunday, July 24, from 6-8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 25, at 10 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, located at 1100 W. Green Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, Florida 32308; St. James Episcopal Church, 1100 W. Green St., Perry Florida; or the Taylor County Education Foundation, 318 N Clark St., Perry, Florida 32347.
