Russell Edward Howell

Russell Edward Howell, 74, passed away on July 29, 2022, in Tallahassee. He was born Oct. 29, 1947, in Thomasville, Ga., to Willie Mason Howell and Kathryn Flemming Howell. Russell honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. He was a Baptist and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Russell retired as a sergeant with the Florida Department of Corrections. He was a longtime member of the Perry Masonic Lodge #123 and also was a part of the Order of Eastern Star. Russell was a dedicated family man who adored his grandchildren and loved attending their sporting activities. He liked to joke around with you and just sit and talk for a spell. In his spare time, he liked to fish and travel. Russell was preceded in death by: his parents, Willie Mason and Kathryn Flemming Howell, and his brothers, Dean Howell and Pastor Dennis Howell. Mr. Howell is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Lanita Ruth Howell; his daughters, Nancy (Mike) Kelly and Lynn (Kurt) Walker; his brother, Marlin (Shanna) Howell; his grandchildren, E.J. (Rebecca), Makayla, Caleb, Elizabeth, Christopher (Marjorie), Jonathan (Kristin), Dannie (Michael), Michael Jr. and Justice (Nikki); and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Joseph, Elijah, Emma and Evan; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Brother Danny Lundy officiating. Interment services followed in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
