James Norman Shaw, 87, passed away on July 29, 2022, in Gainesville. Norman was born Oct. 18, 1934, in Ocala to James Randolph Shaw and Gladys Bichard Shaw. He received the Lord as his Savior in Orlando on Aug. 24, 1967, and was baptized Sept. 3, 1967. Norman was a Baptist and, in October 1995, joined Faith Baptist Church of Perry, where he sang in the church choir, performed special music, drove the church bus on Sunday mornings, as well for special trips and events for the church, and coordinated special music groups to come and sing for the church. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy for four years, and then he enlisted in the Naval Reserves, reaching the rank of Petty Officer. In his spare time, Norman like to spend time in nature, fishing, hunting and tinkering in his workshop. He was preceded in death by: his wife of 36 years, Mrs. Nellie Shaw; his parents, James Randolph and Gladys Bichard Shaw; his son, Ricky Shaw; and grandson, Jimmy Griffin. Mr. Shaw is survived by: his seven daughters, Diann Hebrank, Roxanne Barnett, Norma Jean Shaw of Virginia, Sharon Henry, Patricia Higginbotham, Dawn Marie McNulty and Norma Jean Shaw of Georgia; and two sons, Robert Shaw and Kenneth Shaw; as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church with Dr. Todd Taylor officiating. Interment services will follow in Pisgah Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m., at the church.
