    Youth mental health seminar offered

    Those who work with youths – teachers, caregivers, pastoral staff members and others – are invited to attend a free youth mental health workshop sponsored by the Saint Leo University Lake City Education Center and Suwannee River Area Health Education Center.

    The workshop will be held Thursday, Sept. 29, at Lake Shore Hospital Authority in Lake City from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    Designed for those who work and interact with young people ages 12-18, this eight-hour workshop teaches parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human service workers and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis.

    Participants will learn:

    • Risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents;

    • The importance of early interventions;

    • How to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental challenge; and,

    • Five-step action plan.
