    Charles O. ‘Chuck’ Fruitt

    Charles O. “Chuck” Fruitt, 89, passed away on Saturday evening, Aug. 27, 2022, at his daughter and son-in-law’s home, surrounded by his family and listening to George. He was born on June 19, 1933, in Delaware County, Ind., to Homer G. and Pearl Opal (Life) Fruitt. Chuck served in the U.S. Army for
    two years as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division.
    He worked as a union bricklayer in the Muncie, Ind., area and traveled to various states working on
    glass tanks for 50 years prior to his retirement. He also farmed in Yorktown and Selma areas most of his
    life. He married Barbara Humbert in 1952, and was married to her for 51 years when she died on June 23, 2003.
    He was also preceded in death by: his parents, Homer G. and Pearl Opal Fruitt; four sisters, Wanetta
    Langdon, Thelma Lyons, Doris Adams and Mary McDuffee; and six brothers, Clarence, Larry, Don, Bud,
    Bob and Harold Fruitt. Surviving are: two daughters, Patsy Slaughter (husband, Benny) of Florida
    and Charla Hiatt (husband, Brian) of Selma, Ind.; four grandchildren, Heather Harris (husband, Rick),
    Gina Picillo (husband, Tony), Charles Slaughter and Luke Slaughter (wife, Shelby); four greatgrandchildren, Brady Harris, Coral, Kadyn and Kohen Picillo; and lifelong friends, Tyra Amos, Earl
    Elliott, Gary Crabtree and Kay Nelson.
