Mary Lee Knowles, 91, passed away at her home on Aug. 30, 2022, in Eridu, surrounded by her family.
Mary Lee was born Dec. 22, 1930, in Greenville to William David Sheffield and Willie Ruth Andrews
Sheffield. Mrs. Knowles was a Baptist and an active longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist
Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and served as the Church Clerk. Mary Lee was a rural mail carrier out of the Greenville Post Office, retiring with more than 30 years of service.
She was a dedicated wife of 74 years to Horace, a loving mother to her children and the very best Grandma to her loving grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, canning, cooking, mowing her lawn and tending to her flowers. She will be fondly remembered for her infectious giggle and bubbly personality. She never met a stranger, and her home was always open to friends and family. Mary Lee was preceded in death by: her parents, Bill and Ruth Sheffield; her sister Margaret (Leland) Thompson; and Wayne Sheffield. Mrs. Knowles is survived by: her husband, Horace W. Knowles; her children, Sharon Carr (Claude Jones), Mike (Debbie) Knowles and Nancy (Jimmy) Lundy; nine grandchildren, Ron (Jessica) Cannon, Lori (Mark) Wiggins, Carrie (Spence) O’Steen, Garrett (Rhonda) Lundy, Jessica Edwards, Claire
(Wade) Humphries, Justin (Raven) Knowles, Ben (Laura) Knowles and Zach (Tiyonna) Knowles; 22
great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Angie Sheffield and Geraldine Perryman; and a special caregiver, Shelli Fletcher, whom we all are very thankful for; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3, at noon at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Brother Danny Lundy and Brother Wade Humphries officiating.
Interment services will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive
friends one hour prior to the service. Friends may sign the online guest book at www.joepburnsfuneralhomes.com.
