    Kenneth ‘Scooter’ Hudson

    Kenneth “Scooter” Hudson, 86, joined his Savior on Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, in Perry.

    Scooter was born on Nov. 12, 1935, and grew up in Salem.

    He was the son of Tom C. Hudson and Lucy H. Sapp-Hudson.

    Scooter was a Baptist and attended Salem Missionary Baptist Church.

    He was a devoted husband to his wife of 61 years, Joyce Hudson, a loving father to his children and the best ‘Papa Scooter” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    He was the eldest of four children, who loved him dearly.

    He honorably served in the United States Army and retired from Procter & Gamble with more than 40 years of dedicated service.

    Scooter, often referred to as the “Mayor of Salem,” lived a full life, often enjoying hunting and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom C. Hudson and Lucy H. Sapp-Hudson, and his sister, Ida Lou Stephens.

    He is survived by: his loving wife, Joyce Hudson; two children, Kendra (Mitch) Sheffield and Kay (Kenneth) Dudley; four grandchildren, Zach (Ashley) Sheffield, Daniel (Samantha) Dudley, Hunter Sheffield and Dylan Dudley; three great-grandchildren, Hudson, Holton and Hadley Sheffield; and his brothers, Brun Matthew “BM” (Connie) Hudson and Danny (Wanda) Hudson; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Brother Marc Pargo and Brother Steve Fox officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

    All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
