Dr. Hoyt Horne, 87, passed away on Sept. 9, 2022, in Tallahassee.
He was born April 2, 1935, in Lake City to Corbett Horne and Cassie Clark Horne.
Dr. Horne graduated from the University of the South, Sewanee Tennessee and University of Florida School of Medicine.
He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force as a physician.
Dr. Horne was a Baptist and a member of First Baptist Church of Perry, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher for many years.
He worked as a Doctor of Allergy, Immunology and Family Practice.
He was past president and member of the Perry Kiwanis Club for many years.
He loved the University of Florida and was a Gator Club booster.
His interests included wood working, fishing, gardening and spending time with friends, family and grandchildren.
Dr. Horne was preceded in death by: his parents, Corbett Horne and Cassie Clark Horne; his wife of 67 years, Betty Jean Horne; his brothers, Leo Horne, Corbett Horne and Glenn Horne; and his sisters, Annette Lee and Anna Mae Harris.
Dr. Horne is survived by: his brother, Neal Horne; his four children, Don and his wife, Julie Horne, John Horne, Jeannie and her husband, Mack Wilson, and Walter and his wife, Tiffany Horne; 10 grandchildren, Clay, Eliza, Lauren, Caroline, Kalee, Emilee, Rhett, Leah, Kendall and Ross; and five great-grandchildren, Trip, Livie, Mae, Milly and Laken.
A celebration of Dr. Horne’s life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Perry with the Rev. Steven Ruff officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the First Baptist Church of Perry, Big Bend Hospice and the University of Florida School of Medicine.
