The Florida Forest Service (FFS) responded to 39 wildfires in Taylor County during the fiscal year ending June 30, almost half the number they battled the previous year.
FFS Forest Area Supervisor Jack Smith credited the reduction in fires to the amount of rain experienced here during that time compared to the prior year, when there were 62 fires reported.
