Barney Chandler ‘Channy’ Wood

Barney Chandler “Channy” Wood, 69, passed away on Sept. 20, 2022, in Valdosta, Ga.

He was born Sept. 15, 1953, in Perry to Barney Wood and Virginia Sayers Wood Skinner.

Channy was a Baptist.

He worked as a welder with RDS Manufacturing before retirement.

He enjoyed watching drag races and working with his horse, Secrets Jet, winning races.

Channy thoroughly enjoyed motorcycles and big wheeler trucks.

Most importantly, he loved spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney Wood and Virginia Sayers Wood Skinner; his brothers, Robert M. Wood, Tony Skinner, C.J. Skinner; and his step-dad, Cecil Skinner.

Mr. Wood is survived by: his wife of 34 years, Elizabeth Marie Wood; his children, Robert Chandler (Bobby) Wood and his wife, Betty, Donna Hagan and Amber Miller and her husband, Omar; his grandchildren, Snowy Hagan, Will Hagan, Zyshawn White, Malik Davis, Nemo Russell and Makenzie, Kolton and Dakotah Wood; three great-grandchildren, Jack, Evelyn and Andi Jane Hagan; sister, Brenda Young; and brothers, Kenny Wood, Durand Skinner and William Skinner; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held today (Friday) at 11 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Pastor Danny Harrelson officiating. Interment services will follow in Woodlawn. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m.
