Mrs. Shona Folsom Murphy, 67, passed away on Oct. 7, 2022 at her home in Perry.
She was born on Nov. 9, 1954, in Lake City to Maurice and Merle Folsom.
Shona grew up in Mayo and attended Lafayette High School, where she graduated as valedictorian in 1972.
She went on to receive her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Florida State University. She was passionate about children with special needs and began her career as a teacher in special education. She then taught second and fourth grade elementary school children and was awarded “Teacher of the Year.”
She later went into administration and was the ESE supervisor for the school system for many years, where she helped many families with special needs.
Shona had a great sense of adventure and loved to have fun. She loved to travel and one of her favorite trips was to New York City, where she frequently visited with her friends to shop and see as many Broadway shows as she could.
She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her beloved grandchildren that she often took to the movies.
She was a great dancer and later took up ballroom dancing after she retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Kevin Folsom.
Shona is survived by: her husband of 46 years, Mr. Roger Murphy; two daughters, Candie Lindsey (Nate) and Emily Hicks (Kevin); seven granddaughters, Julianna, Jenna, Georgia, Gigi, Madeline, Elizabeth and Hannah Kate; brother, Maury Folsom; and sister, Beverly Booth; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at noon at Calvary Baptist Church with Brother Ben Kimmel officiating. Interment services will follow in Pineview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 11 a.m. to noon.
