Eddie Lee Oglesby “If I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living shall not be in vain.” Mr. Eddie Lee Oglesby, 69, the son of John Wainwright and Mamie Oglesby, was born on June 5, 1953 in Perry. He grew up in the Taylor County community until he became a young man who established new residency in his beloved Miami. However, many years later, he relocated to his hometown. He was preceded in death by his father, John Wainwright; his brother, Dennis Horace Oglesby; and his granddaughter, Olivia Hampton. Celebration of Life services, with COVID-19 restrictions, will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. on the lawn of Springhill Cemetery in Perry. Public viewing and visitation will be held today (Friday) from 4-6 p.m. in the chapel of J.P. Moore Mortuary, 379 W. Base Street, in Madison. Eddie believed in God and let his life reflect his love for Him. He knew that to live was to also have hope, and he was determined to not only live life to its fullest, but to also make an impact on those whose lives he encountered. He was compassionate; his concern for others included heartfelt gestures such as offering his encouragement as well as his support. Likewise, he never gave a second thought about providing food and/or a financial hand up to those in need. He was good-natured, pleasant and a joy to be around. He loved his family, but had a special bond with his children and grandchildren. He made certain they did not lack the essential things they needed. Eddie was very talented. He used his gift for singing, dancing and even writing melodies and recording some of them. He had a special fondness for shopping so that he could dress to impress, always making a fashion statement in his trendy attire. Likewise, he was a sports fan who was enthusiastically attracted to watching and enjoying all types of sports. Eddie was employed for many years by Anderson and Columbia Concrete Company. Although he loved life itself, Eddie Lee Oglesby bowed in humble submission to the will of the Heavenly Father who makes no mistakes. He peacefully closed his eyes and entered eternal glory on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022. Many hearts are saddened, but not as those who have no hope. Those who will forever cherish Eddie Lee Oglesby’s love, life and legacy are: his devoted daughters, Regina Powell Oglesby of Tallahassee and Mamie (Danny) Arnold of Madison; his beloved son, Lashek Oglesby of Rockford, Ill.; his caring special friend, Floreastine Laniece Powell of Perry; his loving mother, Mamie (Clarence) Oglesby Bolden of Perry; brother, Wade B. Hall of Tallahassee; sisters, Annie Jane Blalock of Perry and Juanita Hall of Tallahassee; and grandchildren, David Lee Martin of Tallahassee, Breshawn Oglesby of Fayetteville, N.C., Joshua Clayton of Orlando and Simone Laniece Hampton of Madison; along with many other loving relatives and sorrowing friends. Final care and compassionate services are being provided to the Oglesby family with love, care and uncompromising dignity, by J.P.
