    Flag flap

    Posted on December 21, 2022

Following one of several tense exchanges between the council and staff during the city’s Dec. 13 meeting, City Public Works Director Chester McAfee (right) relocated the state and U.S. flags in the city council room. While asking for updates on several requests made at the previous meeting, Councilwoman Diane Landry (left) asked, “Why haven’t the flags been moved?” referencing Councilman Bill Brynes’ request. “We thought about that, and I don’t remember there being a motion or consensus or anything,” City Finance Director Penny Staffney replied. “I will make a motion now,” Brynes (center) responded. “Bill asked that the flags be moved because they are not in the proper position. Do you have to have a motion for that?” Landry asked. “Where do you want them?” McAfee asked, before immediately relocating the flags behind the council with assistance from Councilman Ward Ketring.
