Samuel Jackson Folsom, 77, of Perry passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022. Sam was born in Mayo to A.F. and Nadene Hurst Folsom on Dec. 17, 1945. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the Army during which time he spent a year in Vietnam. Upon his return from Vietnam, Sam married Beverly Coleman, his wife of 56 years. Sam joined the Florida Highway Patrol in 1970 and served with the patrol for 25 years, retiring in 1995. He served as deacon in his church, Beeridge Baptist Church in Sarasota, where he cooked Wednesday night dinners, was active with the youth group, kept the grounds of the church manicured and worked in the RA’S. In 1999 he and his wife moved back to North Florida where he enjoyed spending most of his time outdoors. Hunting, fishing and spending time with his three sons were some of his favorite pastimes. Sam was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Robert Folsom. He is survived by: his wife, Beverly Folsom; sons, David (Monica) Folsom, Christopher (MaryAnne) Folsom and Jonathan Folsom; grandchildren, Brock (Roxanne), Afton, Jessica, Justin, Mallory, Macon and Ryland; greatgrandchildren, Mylie, Aria and Maverick; a sister, Carolyn Pearson; and two brothers, Terrance and Kenneth Folsom; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Pineview Memorial Cemetery with Brother Dan Chaney officiating. Interment services will followed afterward. The family received friends prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m., at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
