    Edna Pearl Poppell (Aycoth)

    Posted on January 6, 2023

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Edna Pearl Poppell (Aycoth), our loving granny, sister, wife, mother and friend to all whose lives she touched. She passed away on Jan. 1, 2023. She was 88 years old. Born in Rockingham, N.C., she moved to Perry as a young lady and started a family, giving birth to one son, Edward Aycoth. Known by many as only Pearl, she found work at The Fair Store in Perry where she was employed for 20-plus years. It is there that the town came to know and love her – her smile, sense of humor and quick wit she had made her lovable to all. As a sales clerk at The Fair Store, women and children would come in and be fitted with the correct size clothes and shoes and men would have the “perfect fitted” blue jeans picked out for them. She liked seeing a man in tightfitting blue jeans! She was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as the pianist for many years and developed friendships that lasted until her passing. Pearl is survived in death by: her grandsons, Chris Snyder, Eric Snyder and Michael Snyder; her granddaughter, Kaci McCraw; many greatgrandchildren; and lifelong friends. She is preceded in death by: her son, Edward Aycoth; husband, Samuel Poppell; and siblings, Georgia and Bobby. She lived the last five years of her life in Alabama with her grandchildren close by. She loved her family and friends and whether you knew her personally or not, you knew of her when someone mentioned her name. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. A celebration of her life will be held at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Perry on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 10 a.m. immediately followed by a graveside service at Pisgah Cemetery with Pastor Chris Arnold officiating at 11 a.m.
