William Virgil Taylor, 91, passed away on Jan. 12, 2023, in Perry. Virgil was born Jan. 21, 1931, in Boyd to William Dennis Taylor and Ollie Mae Rogers Taylor. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was self-employed for sometime as a plumber, then became a general contractor in Vero Beach. After returning to Perry, he began his career at Watkins Engineering as an iron worker, retiring after 25 years, where he was fondly called “Dirty Buddy.” Virgil was a Christian and was baptized at San Pedro Baptist Church. His hobbies included fishing, piddling around with his tools and just generally having a good time. He was preceded in death by: his parents, William Dennis Taylor and Ollie Mae Rogers Taylors; his brother, Junior and wife, Nina Taylor; and brotherin-law, Melvin Bowden. Virgil is survived by: his son, Mark (Kelli) Taylor; and his sister, Edith Bowden; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Brother Justin Webb officiating. Interment services followed in San Pedro Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
