As rescuers continue to assess the damage wrought by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, residents in Taylor County and around the Big Bend are working to make contact with relatives affected by the storm.
According to the United Nations, the death toll from Haiyan, which was one of the strongest tropical systems ever recorded, has exceeded 4,400 people, but some officials are saying the number could eventually exceed 10,000.
