    Posted on January 25, 2023

Gregory “Greg” Munroe Griffin, 74, of Perry passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, at the VA Medical Center in Lake City. Greg was born in DeFuniak Springs on April 24, 1948, to the late William Edward Griffin and Mizpah Munroe Griffin. He was raised in Perry and graduated from Taylor County High School in 1967. While in middle school, Greg met his best friend, Tilda Juanita “Nita” Lundy, and they have been inseparable since. He found his love for music early in life and started singing and playing guitar. As a teenager, Greg was a guitarist and lead singer with his brother and a few others in “The Souls” band singing 60s rock cover songs. He went to junior college for a short season and joined the United States Navy in November 1967. He knew he was called to serve and he proudly served his country until 1976. While in the military, he married his lifetime love, Nita, on June 7, 1968, and they moved to Jacksonville. Greg was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and greatgrandfather who loved his family dearly. After his honorable discharge from the military, Greg and his family relocated to Palatka, where Greg had a successful career as a state certified crop advisor for farm chemicals and, later, Douglas fertilizer. When not working, Greg enjoyed remodeling homes, wood working, fishing, gardening, cheering for the Florida Gators and sailing on his sailboat, “Matilda Bay.” Greg and Nita loved traveling, boating, being near the water and just being together. While residing in Palatka, Greg was a deacon at San Mateo First Baptist Church where they were longtime members. In 2016, Greg and Nita made Perry their forever home and became members at Calvary Baptist Church. Most of all, Greg loved his family, enjoyed spending time with them and making precious memories that lasted a lifetime. He was a true treasure and will be greatly missed. Greg was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Phillip Griffin. Greg is survived by: his loving wife of 54 years, Nita Griffin of Perry; sons, James Edward Griffin of Perry and Michael Gregory (Rebecca) Griffin of Franklin, Tenn.; sister, Leslie (Bill) Svendsen of Melbourne; sister-in-law, Kathy Griffin of Palatka; granddaughters, Olivia, Isabella and Brittiany Griffin; and greatgrandchildren, Chloe, Zoey, Luna and Draco. A celebration of Greg’s life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Ben Kimmell officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Ferreira Funeral Services in Lake City.
