Ronald Louis Hill, a veteran of Vietnam, Desert Storm and Desert Shield, and a longtime resident of Perry, passed away on Jan. 16, 2023, surrounded by family. Ron, as he was known to many in the area, was born Feb. 6, 1947, to the late William Walter Hill and Elizabeth Youngblood-Hill in Quitman, Ga. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as an Airman Basic, E-1. He retired as Senior Master Sergeant E-8 25 years later. Ron saw action and he had many amazing stories of his time in the service. His experience in the Air Force played a very important role in his life. He frequently pointed out that the Air Force taught him the value of discipline, teamwork, and investing in a cause larger than himself. He would often explain to loved ones how these values contributed to his success as a civilian upon returning home from Vietnam, Desert Storm and Desert Shield. His dedication and sacrifice earned him several badges and medals of decorations, including: a Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with one Silver Oak Leaf, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, Southwest Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and numerous other achievements of honorable service awards. Ron was raised in the Church of the Nazarene, which he blessed his family with Jesus Christ. He taught by grace through faith and the witness of the Spirit to do God’s work and protect human lives by showing them God’s unconditional love. His family was his pride and joy. He also treasured going out in nature to fish and hunt; those times were best with his family at his side. Survivors honoring his memory are: his wife of 23 incredible years, Debbie Hill; five daughters, Tanya (Eddie) Friloux, Renee (Jeremy) Boyette, Crystal Malone, Stephanie (Michael) Towles and Barbara (Charles) Tillman; three sons, Carl (Magan) Sadler, Bobby (Sherra) Sadler and Eric (Danielle) Sadler; sister, Fannie Hill; brother, Darrell (Dianne) Hill; 16 grandchildren; f ive great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, William Hardy Hill and Richard Hill; two sisters, Shirley Coleman and Brenda Cockcroft; and a son, Daniel Moore. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. at Cross Point Baptist Church in Perry. Officiating for this honorable man will be Brother Eddie Pridgeon. The celebration will continue with a military honor detail at Tallahassee National Cemetery, located at 5015 Apalachee Parkway in Tallahassee.
