Charlie F. Vann, age 92, of Taylor County, passed away on February 21, 2023, in Perry. Charlie was born February 3, 1931, in Perry, Florida to Rev. John Francis Vann and Christina Anderson Vann. He grew up in Foley with his three brothers, John Henry, Earl, and Phillip, and two sisters Louise and Virginia. Charlie went into the United States Air Force, at a very young age during WWII and the Korean War. After serving in the Air Force, he returned home and married the love of his life, Patricia Mae Gunter, Nov. 28, 1953. Charlie loved his family and enjoyed having family gatherings with all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed sitting on his front porch, watching the kids play in the front yard and calling his cows. Charlie was an ordained deacon at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Eridu, where he remains a member. Charlie was a hard worker with a heart of gold, who loved playing jokes on coworkers and family. He was a devoted husband, known to his children as Dad, to his grands as Papa or Pa. He believed in the higher power of God and enjoyed sharing the gospel with others. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Mae, son Johnny, grandchildren Kevin and Karen Vann, two great grandchildren Noah Thompson and Alex Cain, brothers John Henry, Earl, Franklin and Phillip Vann and his sister Louise Alford. Mr. Vann is survived by his children, Terry (Spyder) Vann, Ray (Lee) Vann, Lynn Tedder, Joe (Lori) Vann, and Rena’ (Jody) Courtney; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sister Virginia (Tommy) Aman; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 24, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Pastor Gil Williams officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterwards in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with military honors. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
