The Friends of the Taylor County Public Library welcomes former Peace Corps volunteer and novelist David J. Mather as guest speaker at their February meeting planned Monday, Feb. 27, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Mather served with the Peace Corps in southern Chile from 1968 to 1970. Some 15 years ago, he began visiting Horseshoe Beach, an area whose culture and people inspired the “Crescent Beach Series.”
“Louie” is the fifth novel in the “Crescent Beach Series,” which mixes background about Florida’s rural Gulf Coast region with sympathetically well-developed characters.
The latest novel includes lots of intense action and subplots, continuing the series’ adult themes, which include drug smuggling, underage sex, addiction and crime. “Louie” includes a glimpse into the old Florida way of life, providing a wealth of North Florida information.
The Friends program will be held at the Taylor County Public Library, located at 403 North Washington Street. It will also be streamed live on the Friends’ Facebook page.
