James Knight Pitcher, 70, a former resident of Matlacha, Fla., passed away on Feb. 25, 2023, in Steinhatchee. Jim was born July 29, 1952, in Horseheads, N.Y., to John Knight Pitcher and Helen Harwood Fox Pitcher. He was an accomplished carpenter and woodworker, who spent much of his early life on Nantucket Island, Mass., and later, Old Saybrook, Conn. Jim loved the sea and the sun, and hated the cold. His favorite hobbies were fishing, boating, enjoying Matlacha sunsets and making stone jewelry for family and friends. He will be fondly remembered as a kind and gentle soul by all who knew him. He is survived by: his sister, Alice Pitcher and her partner, Tom Dott; his daughter, Julie Clark and her husband, Eric Clark; and three grandsons, Noah, Malcolm and Harrison Clark; as well as a host of great friends who he loved very much. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Robert “Robbie” Harwood Pitcher, aka “Wood Fox.” No services are planned at this time, but Jim would have loved to be remembered over a beer at The Blue Dog. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry. Friends may sign the online guest book at www.joepburnsfuneralhomes.com.
