    Mattie Frances Whiddon English

    Mattie Frances Whiddon English, 86, passed away on May 3, 2023, at her home in Eridu.

    She was a lifelong resident of Taylor County and the daughter of the late A.T. Whiddon and the late Maggie Hendry Whiddon.

    Mrs. English married her late husband, John Otis “J.O.” English Jr., in 1953 and they enjoyed 55 years together before his passing in 2008.

    She was a valued and faithful member of the Lake Bird Methodist Church.

    She retired from the State of Florida after many years of dedicated service. She enjoyed spending time with family and helping those in need.

    Mrs. English was preceded in death by: her husband of 55 years, John Otis “J.O.” English Jr.; her parents, A.T. and Maggie Whiddon; her sister, Ima Jean “Jean” Pearson; and her brothers, Talmadge Wayne “Buddy” Whiddon and Robert “Bob” Whiddon.

    She is survived by: her sisters, Wanda Bodiford and Dahlia Blue (and husband, Ralph); her children, Pamela York, Eddie English, Mark English (and wife, Angi) and Amy Rooks (and husband Clay); her grandchildren, Kurt Crews (and wife, Jennifer), Angela English, Maggie Rooks, Clayte Rooks, Stephanie English, Ansley English and Mattie Rooks; her great-grandchildren, Cassidy Crews, James Crews, Gage White, Ella Palmerton, Colson Hengstebeck, Brandon Lopez, Tyler Lopez, Monica Honor (and husband, Jatwan) and Hayden Gregory; her great-great-grandson, Zaydn Glanton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    A graveside service was held at Lake Bird Methodist Church on Friday, May 5, at 2 p.m.

    Family received friends Friday afternoon at 1:30 immediately preceding the graveside service at Lake Bird Methodist Church.

    The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lake Bird Methodist Church Cemetery Fund in honor of Mrs. English.
