Robert Jeffery Thompson, 70, of Keaton Beach died Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
Jeffery was born on Jan. 18, 1953, in Thomaston, Ga., to the late Robert Jefferson “Bobby” Thompson and the late Carolyn Ard Thompson.
He was a graduate of R.E. Lee Institute, Class of 1972, and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga.
In his early career, Jeffery owned a Serpro Franchise in Perry, Ga. He later owned Thompson Trucking Company and, over his lifetime, hauled very expensive sports cars all over the country, was a truck driver for different companies and did backhoe work.
He was currently retired doing odd jobs with his backhoe.
Jeffery was an avid fisherman and gardener, He had just planted 25 blueberry trees, multiple sun patiens, other fruit trees, spinach, etc.
He loved his backhoe so much that he actually talked to it. He loved doing for people with no pay, whether it was taking patients to the hospital which was an hour and half away, taking trees down with his backhoe or putting water systems in. He also loved boating, pets and having large fish fries for his family and friends.
Surviving Jeffery in death are: his wife of 39 years, Carol Olsen Thompson of Keaton Beach; stepson as close as a son, Jeremy (Jill) Doggett of Jacksonville, Ark.; daughter, Rebecca Elizabeth Beach; grandson, Noah Beach of North Georgia; step-grandsons, Cole Doggett, Brett Doggett and Hunter (Kate) Wyatt, all of Jacksonville Arkansas, and Trenton Doggett of Georgia; and sister, Janice Thompson Adams of St. Simons Island, Ga.
A celebration of life for family and friends will be held Saturday, July 1, at Thompson’s home at Keaton Beach.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Harmony Church in Thomaston, Ga.
