Sherry Lynn Norton Fletcher “Ma”, 75, of Old Town Florida passed away peacefully at her home on August 15, 2023 surrounded by family and friends.
Sherry was born in Jacksonville, Florida on November 28, 1947, to James Hubert and Margaret Norton, Sr. She graduated in 1965 from Nathan Bedford Forrest High School in Jacksonville. During family visits to Dixie County, she met the love of her life, Freddie Fletcher, at Rock Sink Baptist Church. They were married on September 18, 1967. They resided in Dixie County, Florida for 56 years together.
Sherry attended Nursing school at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Years later she provided childcare in her home before starting her career of 45 years at Florida Forest Products in Cross City,, Florida as head bookkeeper.
Sherry was strong in her Faith and was baptized at Rock Sink Baptist Church in 1966 by her uncle Elmer Buzbee, who was the pastor. She remained a dedicated servant to her Lord and Savior for 57 years at this same church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, WMU member, Women’s Recovery Group mentor, church choir member, VBS leader, church cooking team and multiple committees throughout the years. Sherry’s endearing personality and genuine heart of gold resonated with everyone she met from young to old.
Her life was a testament to her strength and beauty as she fought her battle with breast cancer and won 15 years ago. She participated in numerous Breast Cancer Awareness events to support others during their journey. She took every opportunity she had to witness to others even during her recent hospital stay. Her favorite past times included reading, working in her yard, canning, and Black Friday shopping every year for the past 22 years.
Her next greatest love, after Freddie, was her children Trina (Clinton) Bean and Shane (Kim) Fletcher. She was known as Ma to her grandchildren. She absolutely adored and was so proud of each one of them; Lesha (Kyle) Wimberley, Katie (Devin) Colson, Hunter (Gabe) Miller, Connor Stengel, Jade (Carsin) Chauncey, Hayden Fletcher, Reece Fletcher, Tristan, Cami and Frankie Infinger. She will always be remembered by her favorite song to them “I love you, a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck”.
Sherry was preceded in death by her Parents James Hubert and Margaret Norton, Sr; brothers Robert Glynn Norton and James Hubert “Jimmy” Norton, Jr. She survived by her brother Larry (Cherie) Norton, her sister Nancy (Walter) Fouche and sister-in-law Debbie Norton as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends and her special Fletcher family whom she loved with all her heart.
