Gail Kathleen ‘Kathy’ Johnson

Gail Kathleen “Kathy” Johnson, 69, passed away on Aug. 20, 2023, at her home in Crawfordville with her daughters by her side.

Kathy was born on July 23, 1954, in Live Oak to James E. Johnson and Doris E. Johnson. She grew up in Mayo and was a graduate of Lafayette High School.

She worked for the State of Florida in human resources for more than 30 years.

After retirement, she spent every minute she could with her grandchildren. In fact, she moved to Crawfordville and spent the last five years living right next door. She was known as “KK” to them.

There was only one thing that she loved more than her family and that was the Lord. She was very strong in her faith and knew she would soon be going home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, James E. Johnson and Doris E. Johnson, and her grandson, Jordan Wayne Maddox.

She is survived by: two daughters: Kristy Maddox (Jeff) and Hayley Gowdy (Jake); three grandchildren, Shelby Gowdy, Raelyn Gowdy and Kane Gowdy; two sisters, Carolyn Scarabin (Johnny) and Peggy Shiver; one niece, Carrie Young (Steve); and one nephew, Brent Scarabin (Erin).

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 24, at 4 p.m. at Bethel Cemetery in Mayo.
