With scores of barbecue teams in town to compete, multiple bands taking the stage and hundreds of volunteers hours coming to fruition this past weekend for the sixth annual Southern Pines Blues & BBQ Festival (also known as the BluesBQ), organizers apparently forgot to issue a memo to Mother Nature, who sent several hours of heavy rainfall through the area Saturday afternoon.
Although the rain put a temporary stop to the music and sent many festival-goers home, it did not dampen the spirits of the cookers or the musicians, and after an enthusiastic crowd cheered on their fellow barbecue teams during Saturday’s awards ceremony, several bands took advantage of a break in the weather to retake the stage and perform for a small, but dedicated group of blues enthusiasts.
