Joseph David Horton

Joseph David Horton, 67, passed away on Sept. 29, 2023, in Tallahassee.

Joe was born Jan. 25, 1956, in Thomasville, Ga., to David Horton and Margie Shiver Horton.

He loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Joe was preceded in death by: his parents, David and Margie Shiver Horton; his sister, Sara Marie Horton; and his beloved dogs, RJ and Daisey.

He is survived by: his wife of 30 years, Mary Horton; four children, Carrie Perkins and her husband, John, Pat Horton, Stephanie Horton Cruse and her husband, Brian, and Derick Cruse; 18 grandchildren, Lindsey Vaughn, Laura Freeman, Ashley Tucker Swindall and her husband, Matt, Melanie Perkins, Ciara Perkins Murphy and her husband, Keith, Matthew Padgett, Bentley Horton, Chris Davis and his wife, Alexis, Brittni Davis, Codie Davis and his wife, Christy, Shannon Cruse, Bridget Cruse, Christian Cruse Lane and her husband, Shaun, Kasey Cruse, Brian Cruse Jr. and his wife, Shawna, Bubba Davis, Madilyn Cruse, and Jeremiah Cruse and Shay; as well as a host of great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. at Carlton Cemetery with Brother Jeremy Gray officiating. The family received friends Monday, Oct. 2, from 6-8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
